Decoding the Illustrations   Page 6

i - monochromatic palette
ii - analogous palette
iii - complementary palette
d - dominant color
n - neutral color
a - accent color

The Color Palette Primer is made up of three palettes. The top palette is a monochromatic scheme. The middle palette is an analogous scheme. The bottom palette is a complementary scheme (see illustration 4). All three palettes contain the same dominant color with varying secondary and accent colors. The secondary color is always a neutral (even the neutral palettes contain a secondary neutral color).

There are, of course, an infinite number of color combinations. But I'm showing 260 dominant colors divided into these three different types of schemes. As you'll see, each scheme represents a different expression of the dominant color.
